Obituary for Rita M. Harrison (Kenney)
Rita M. (Kenney) Harrison, 92, of Ridley Township, a Registered Nurse, died June 11 at home. She was the beloved wife of Joseph F. Harrison, Jr. for 60 years.
Born in Camden, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edward A. Kenney and Helen V. Burns. She was raised in Norwood and Glenolden, and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and Fitzgerald Mercy Nursing School. She was employed at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital for over 50 years, and last worked in the Short Procedure Unit before retiring in 2001.
Mrs. Harrison was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Morton for 62 years, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and active in the H.O.P.E. Ministry. She was also a longtime member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima. She was an avid reader and enjoyed participating in book clubs and bible study groups. She was the driving force behind several memorable Fourth of July celebrations in the Ridley Farms neighborhood in the 1960s. She also loved attending activities involving her children and grandchildren.
Survivors: sons Joseph F., III of Aston, Thomas of Lincoln University, John of Springfield, and Edward of Havertown; daughters Mary Ann Peterson of Cape May, NJ, Patricia Useller of Claymont, DE, Susan Marley of Kittridge, CO, Jean Clark of Glen Mills; brother, Raymond Kenney of Springfield; sister, Ann Sorace of Oxford, PA;
29 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation and Mass: A viewing will be held from 7PM to 9PM on Thursday evening at Kevin Lyons Funeral Services, 202 S. Chester Pike, Glenolden. A brief viewing will also be held 10:30AM to 11:15AM on Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2130 Franklin Ave., Morton, PA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Burial will be at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
