Sr. Rose Eichner, OSF (Eichner)
Sister Rose Marie Eichner, OSF, (formerly Sister Miriam Eugene), (75) died in Assisi House on November 6. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 54 years. Sister Rose Marie was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. Prior to her entrance into the congregation in 1960, she attended Central Catholic High School. She professed her first vows in 1963. Sister Rose Marie earned a B.A. in Social Science from Neumann University in 1975 and ministered primarily in in education, healthcare, and pastoral care.
Sister Rose Marie ministered for 35 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She taught at St. Stanislaus School in Lansdale. She also worked for many years in healthcare ministry at St. Mary Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, and St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne. She volunteered for many several years at Our Lady of Angels Convent and at Assisi House in Aston. In 2011 she moved to Assisi House where she served in prayer ministry until her death.
Sister Rose Marie ministered for 11 years in the Diocese of Allentown. During her years in the diocese she taught at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Minersville, St. Mary School in Catasauqua, and Sacred Heart School in Allentown.
Additional ministry experience included being a house mother at St. Mary Home in New Bedford, Massachusetts and as a general assistant for the Ministry of Caring in Wilmington, Delaware.
All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Rose Marie is survived by her sisters, Susan Eichner and Marianne Roth, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and by her Franciscan family.
