Sr. Rosa McFadden,OSF (McFadden)
Aston, PA—Sister Rosa Mystica McFadden, OSF, (94) died in Assisi House on December 27. She had
been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 73 years. Sister Rosa Mystica
(Anna Marie McFadden) was born in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of Our
Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and a graduate of Mount Carmel High School. She entered the
congregation in 1941 and professed her first vows in 1944. Sister Rosa Mystica studied nursing at St.
Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton and graduated as an RN in 1946. She ministered in
healthcare primarily as a nursing supervisor.
Sister Rosa Mystica’s 48 years of service in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia included working as a
nursing supervisor and later as nursing coordinator at St. Agnes Medical Center. She also worked for
many years at Assisi House, the congregation’s retirement residence in Aston—first as a nursing
supervisor and later as a volunteer. In 2008 she became a resident of Assisi House and served in prayer
ministry until her death.
During her 16 years of ministry in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Rosa Mystica worked as a nursing
supervisor at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson.
Sister Rosa Mystica also ministered for 10 years in the Diocese of Trenton. She worked at both St. Francis Medical Center and St. Clare Hall as a nursing supervisor.
All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, 19014 on Wednesday,
January 3. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian
Burial at will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Rosa Mystica
is survived by her nieces, nephews, and cousins, and by her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
