Joseph A. DiMento, 77 of Briarcliff, Glenolden, PA, peacefully passed away on Wednesday August 29,2018.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Josephine (Alfieri) DiMento.
Joseph was a longtime resident of Delaware County, before moving to Chesterfield, SC where he spent 10 years, enjoying his retirement, spending time with his family and friends and watching the grass grow with a cup of coffee before moving back to Pennsylavania in 2018.
Joseph was a proud US Army Master Sergeant 1st Special Forces Green Berets, Airbourne Ranger earning a Purple Heart, Silver Star as well as many other distinguished medals, badges and citations during his 1959 to 1965 military career. Joseph was stationed through out the United States, Germany, Panama, Japan and was honarably discharged after defending the United States of America during the Vietnam war.
Joseph was a hard working, straightforward, dedicated and respected family man, who enjoyed working around his home,taking his daily outings, traveling to see family as well as talking politics. He was a great conversationalist on many other topics as well as a master of many trades.
Joseph was a former brother of the Masonic Lodge of Philadelphia, Pa and a current brother of Masonic Lodge 314 Ruby, SC.
Joseph was a Mechanical Foreman with SEPTA on the high speed elevated lines through out Fernrock, Bridge and Pratt and 69th street divisions for over 25 years before retiring in 1997.
Predeceased by his wife Margaret (nee Beitz) and his son Charles.
Survived by his children Margaret,Mathias,Marie,Barbara,Manfred,Theresa, Joseph, Benjamin (Theresa) and Michelle.
His brother Salvatore (Kathleen) and his sister Carol (Edward) Lucas.
Also survived by 36 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Many Nieces and Nephews.
Joseph's family will be honoring him at the Kevin M. Lyons Funeral Service 202 S. Chester Pk Glenolden, PA
Visitation Tuesday 9/4/2018 7-9PM and Wednesday 9/5/2018 9-10am
Prayer service will be held Wednesday 10am at the Funeral Home
Entombment Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the American Cancer Assoc.,1626 Locust St, Philadelphia, PA. 19103 or to a charity of donor's choice, in Joseph’s name,would be appreciated.
